2020 Calendar

Hello and welcome to 2020! After a breathtaking year for the women's game in 2019, this year promises to bring with it some more exciting competitions and further growth of the game. Here are the competitions to look forward to in 2020

JANUARY


CAF FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers Preliminary Round (Jan 10-26)

- 20 nations entered into qualifiers

- Games will be played over two legs in a home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Djibouti, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

- 4 nations given preliminary round byes: Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa

- Winners progress to the next round (Round 1)


CAF Olympic Qualifying Round 5 (Jan 13 – Feb 9)

- This is the final round of qualifiers

- Cameroon and Zambia will face off over two legs in a home-and-away series

- The winner qualifies for the Olympics while the loser will go up against South American nation Chile in a play-off for a spot between the two continents


CAF FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers Preliminary Round (Jan 17 – Feb 2)

- 29 nations entered into qualifiers

- Games will be played over two legs in a home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

- 3 nations given preliminary round byes: Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana

- Winners progress to the next round (Round 1)


CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament (Jan 28 – Feb 9)

- Host: USA

- Group A: USA, Chile, Panama, Haiti

- Group B: Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis

- The top 2 teams from each group qualifies for the Olympics


FEBRUARY


AFC Olympic Qualifying Final Round Group Stage (Feb 3-9)

- Group A: South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar

- Group B: Australia, China, Taiwan, Thailand

- North Korea withdrawn from qualifiers, was previously in Group A


UNAF WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT (Feb 14 - 22)

- Host: Tunisia

- Edition: 2nd

- Participants: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia (3 of 5 UNAF nations); Tanzania and Mauritania (guests)

- Format: Single round-robin, first-place team wins


CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship (Feb 15 - Mar 1)

- Host: Dominican Republic

- Group stage features 10 teams in two groups of five with the top two teams in each group progressing to the knockout stage

- Participating countries: Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America


CAF FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers Round 1 (Feb 28 – Mar 15)

- Games will be played over two legs in a home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Preliminary Round winners + Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa

- Winners progress to Round 2


MARCH


Turkish Women's Cup (Mar 2-11)

- Host: Turkey

- Participants: Chile, Hong Kong, Hungary, Kenya, Northern Ireland, Romania, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Venezuela


Cyprus Cup (Mar 5-11)

- Participating countries (so far): Czech Republic, Finland, Mexico, Slovakia, Thailand, Croatia

- Defending champs: Korea DPR


Algarve Cup (Mar 4-11)

- Participating countries (so far): Portugal (host), Denmark, New Zealand, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway

- Defending champs: Norway


Tournoi de France (Mar 4-10)

- Participating countries: France, Brazil, Canada, Netherlands


SheBelieves Cup (dates TBC)

- Host: USA

- Participating countries: England, Spain, Japan, USA

- Spain will be participating at the tournament for the first time. Germany and France have both featured in previous editions.


UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifying Group Stage (Mar 5-11)


AFC Olympic Qualifying Final Round Play-off Stage (Mar 6 & 11)


CAF FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament Round 1 (Mar 20-29)

- Games will be played over two legs, in home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Preliminary Round winners + Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana

- Winners progress to the next round (Round 2)


Pinatar Cup (dates TBC)

- Participating countries: Ukraine, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Iceland


APRIL


African Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifying Round 1 (Apr 6-14)

- 36 nations entered into qualifiers

- Games will be played over two legs, in hone-and-away series

- Participating countries: Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, DR Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Sao Tome, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe

- 8 countries given first round byes: Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa

- Winners progress to next round (Round 2)


UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifying Group Stage (Apr 9-14)


CAF FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament Round 2 (Apr 24 – May 10)

- Games will be played over two legs, in home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Round 1 winners


CAF African Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifying Round 2 (dates TBC)

- 11 countries qualify for and join host at Final tournament


CAF/CONMEBOL Olympic Qualification Play-off (Apr 9 & 15)


MAY


CAF FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament Round 3 (May 29 – Jun 21)

- Games will be played over two legs, in home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Round 2 winners

- Winners qualify for Final tournament


CAF FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Round 2 (May 1 – 17)

- Games will be played over two legs, in home-and-away series

- Participating countries: Round 1 winners


JUNE


African Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifying Round 2 (Jun 1-9)

- Games will be played over two legs, in hone-and-away series

- Participating countries: Round 1 winners + Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa

- Winners qualify for and join host at final tournament


UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifying Group Stage (Jun 3-9)


JULY


Women’s Olympic Football Tournament (Jul 22 – Aug 7)

- Host: Tokyo, Japan

- Participating countries: Japan, Brazil, Great Britain, Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, CAF1, CAF2/CONMEBOL2, AFC1, AFC2, CONCACAF1, CONCACAF2


AUGUST


FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (exact dates TBC)

- Host: Costa Rica/Panama


SEPTEMBER


UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifying Group Stage (Mar 16-22)


OCTOBER


UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifying Play-off Stage (Oct 19-27)


NOVEMBER


FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup (Nov 2 – 21)

- Host: India


CAF African Women’s Cup of Nations (Nov 28 – Dec 12)

- Host: TBC

- Number of teams in final tournament has been increased from 8 to 12, this will be the first edition to feature the 12-team format

- Defending champions: Nigeria
